Carl Froch says Dave Coldwell was right to withdraw Jordan Gill from his fight against Enrique Tinoco.

Carl Froch says Dave Coldwell was right to withdraw Jordan Gill from his fight against Enrique Tinoco.

Gill lost his undefeated record and his WBA international featherweight title. He was dropped three times, and was forced to retire after eight rounds.

After his 24th defeat, the fighter from Cambridgeshire revealed that he had decided to fight in Nottingham after being diagnosed with food poisoning.

"Jordan Gill could've outboxed him. He looked smart and good. Froch stated Sky Sports that he could have outboxed Gill, and that he looked slick and good.

"Unfortunately, it's not well. He has come out and stated that he is not well. This has taken away his energy and impacted his performance. He is only 24 so he has a chance to correct that mistake.

"He has looked great up to this point, and I'm certain he will return. He took a lot heavy shots, so that's a very bad loss. He was put to the ground a few times. He was clipped on his chin.

"In round three there is a body shot, which he took well. Later, he takes another body shot from an entirely different angle. He continued to work and found his rhythm.

"He was in a terrible place and was not able to recover. It was a great pull out from Dave Coldwell.

"We don't have the ability to judge him on the basis of his illness, he is sick, so we'll just take his word for it." He's still young enough that if he wins a rematch, it will be a righteous decision.
