Cristiano Ronaldo could stay at Manchester United, with the Portugal international having run out of options to move away from Old Trafford after Chelsea pulled out from any possible deal.

Rumours of a transfer to Old Trafford have led to Ronaldo's absence from United's preseason tour to Australia.

United will play Europa League football in the upcoming season. This is something Ronaldo never did during his long and successful playing career. The 37-year old wants to leave United, as he searches for Champions League football.

According to reports, Ronaldo may have a huge offer from Saudi Arabia for his superstar status.

Manchester United's position regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has not changed.

Sky Sports News understands that the club is open to considering offers for Ronaldo, but it remains their public position that Ronaldo is not up for sale.

Erik ten Hag stated in Bangkok that Ronaldo (who has one year left on his United contract) is still in his plans for next season and that he expects him to remain at the club.

"We have plans for Cristiano Ronaldo to be our season's star and that's all. I look forward to working alongside him. Cristiano isn't for sale. We have plans for him and want to succeed together.

"He is not here with us, and that's because of personal issues. Before this issue was brought up, I had spoken with him. I had a great conversation with him. This is Cristiano and I. We had a great conversation. "I didn't speak with him after the news.

Ten Hag declined to comment further on Ronaldo's future after his arrival in Melbourne.

The Dutchman stated that he made a statement before Friday's friendly match against Melbourne Victory, an A-League team at the MCG.

Sky Sports News senior journalist Melissa Reddy in Melbourne:

"Chelsea has distanced themselves from any deal for Ronaldo as have Bayern Munich and Napoli, as well as a lot other elite clubs Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's agent, tried to sell to.

"The offer from Saudi Arabia is incredible, but it doesn't give Cristiano Ronaldo the legacy he desires. He hopes to set Champions League records that no one else can achieve in the future.

"Now it seems that he will have the luxury of staying at Manchester United, as there are no biteers from the major clubs.

"Everyone already has their forwards, but Chelsea is the only club that looks like they could be spun by the pitch of Cristiano Ronaldo. We were told Mendes was, while in front of these clubs, putting forward his numbers for social media influence and sponsorship, as well as the commercial gain from his shirt sales, etc.

"But they say that he is not in the plans. Their immediate goal is to strengthen the defense.

Ronaldo has few options. We know he wants to compete at the highest level, so if he goes to Saudi Arabia, that would be against everything he's said and all we know about him and his career.

Manchester United has always been calm and comfortable. They insist he isn't for sale and that he will continue to serve out his last year of contract. We'll see how they manage this going forward, but Ronaldo is staying fit so there are no worries or issues over his pre-season report.

Who will be moving this summer? The transfer window opens June 10, and closes 11pm September 1.
